Tikendrajit Singh

While strolling around Chanakyapuri you would come across a road named Tikendrajit Singh Road.

If you don't already know about him, you may wonder why so? The fact that we know much more about the mainland indian heroes and so less about the heroes from North East India is one of the reasons.

Tikendrajit Singh was a Manipuri prince and military commander who led a revolt against the British during the Anglo Manipur war.

During this war, Cheif Commissioner of Assam, James Wallace Quinton was killed along with many other high ranking officers of the British Army.

A lady named Ethel Grimwood (whose husband Frank Grimwood was the British representative in Manipur and was also killed during the revolution) survived the revolution and was given the title of Heroine of Manipur.

Tikendrajit Singh is revered as a Hero of Manipur.
