Political Circus

“I don’t understand the importance of India sending a space mission to Mars when half of its children are undernourished and half of all Indian families have no access to sanitation.” - Jean Dreze (a development economist)

Cost of Mission mars is Rs. 450 Cr. and Cost of the Statue of Unity is going to be around Rs. 2000 Cr.

Now do we need a mars mission or do we need a statue or do we need both at all?

Morning news covered a news on Norway where govt. spend some money to fit some mirrors in the Hills so that the villagers can get Sun Light in winters. (Novel Idea- welfare state , of which Jean Dreze and Amartya Sen talk about as enshrined in our constitution)

Modi going the mayawati way. Spend the taxpayers money on Statues. Only dictators have a flair for Big Statues.Be it Stalin , Saddam Hussain or any other.

So why Indian leaders are obsessed with Idea of Creating these things. It is similar to Colosseum being created by Romans or Pyramids or any other objects. Just to engage the stupid Janta and entertain them. They will not ask questions if they are thoroughly entertained.

So , enjoy The Great Indian Circus and Live in penury.
